Description
Under the dark of night, two spans, equal in size and length, cross a mighty river.
Green and Red, Green and Red illuminates, Green and Red, Green and Red radiates along the deck.
Standing below along the waters edge on a cold, misty dawn, green light reflected off the pier I glance up. A beam of light crosses spans and then is gone.
This is the North and south bound South Grand Island Bridges.
The southbound span was opened in 1935, the northbound span was finished in 1963. The bridges are twin truss arch bridges with a steel through-arch in the middle.
